Mercer County is the densest chimney territory we serve. Trenton rowhouses, colonial-era Princeton estates with irregular flue dimensions, and Hamilton and Ewing homes nearing sixty years old each fail in their own way, and our Hamilton shop puts a crew minutes from every one of them. A. Pennacchi & Sons rebuilds, repoints, relines, and caps chimneys across every Mercer County municipality, with lime mortars matched to the original assembly and fixed-price written proposals after a site visit.

Mercer County: Signs Your Mercer County Chimney Needs Repair Or A Rebuild.

Signs Your Mercer County Chimney Needs Repair Or A Rebuild.

Watch for these signs of chimney damage across Mercer County homes: What needs immediate attention: active leaks, structural movement, cracked liners, or any safety concern. What can be scheduled: minor mortar erosion and cosmetic deterioration that hasn't reached the brick core yet. Why Mercer County chimneys fail faster: the Delaware Valley sees 30 to 40 freeze-thaw cycles most winters. Water gets into a hairline crack, freezes, expands, and widens that crack a little more each cycle. This hits older Trenton and Princeton masonry especially hard, since original brick and mortar were never built for today's temperature swings. A repair booked early is almost always smaller than the same repair booked a year later.

  • Cracked or crumbling mortar joints
  • Spalling or flaking brick
  • Efflorescence, the white staining that signals water intrusion
  • A leaning or shifting chimney structure
  • A damaged or missing chimney cap
  • Water inside the fireplace
  • Failed flashing where the chimney meets the roof

Chimney Repair Services Across Mercer County.

Eyebrow: What We Do H2: Chimney Repair Services Across Mercer County Chimney Inspection Every project starts with a real evaluation, not a guess. We check the flue, the crown, the chimney cap, and the flashing across Trenton, Princeton, Hamilton, and every Mercer County township we serve, so we know the actual failure point before recommending anything. Chimney Rebuilding A rebuild from the roofline up is the only lasting fix once brick has spalled or courses have shifted. Most Mercer County rebuild projects take 3 to 5 days depending on chimney height, whether it's a Trenton rowhouse or a Hamilton split-level. Chimney Repointing Repointing solves the problem once the brick is sound but the mortar joints have failed. We match mortar color and mix, including lime-based formulas needed on Princeton and Trenton's colonial and Victorian-era homes. Chimney Crown Repair The crown sheds water off the top of the chimney. A cracked crown lets moisture straight into the brick below, so we rebuild or seal it before that damage spreads through the stack. Chimney Cap Repair A missing or damaged chimney cap invites pests, debris, and moisture straight down the flue. We replace and reseat caps so the opening stays protected through every Mercer County winter. Chimney Flashing Repair Flashing seals the joint where the chimney meets the roofline. Once it ages or lifts, water finds its way in fast, often showing up as a ceiling stain nowhere near the chimney itself. Chimney Liner Repair A properly installed chimney liner protects the masonry from heat and combustion byproducts and keeps carbon monoxide out of the living space. We reline with stainless steel where code and the heating appliance require it. Brick & Masonry Repair This is where our chimney repair masonry Mercer County NJ background matters most. Matching mortar mix, brick type, and coursing on a century-old Trenton or Princeton chimney takes real training, not guesswork. Chimney Leak Repair Leaks usually trace back to porous brick, a failed crown, or bad flashing. We diagnose the actual cause first so the fix holds instead of masking the symptom for one more season.

I had a roofer come out for a small leak in my attic. He fixed it and while up on the roof took pictures of my chimney. Told me I had a big problem. Lot of mortar missing. I called A. Pennacchi & Sons. Paul came out the next day. He told me what needed to be done and gave me a price. I asked him if I should add a few bricks to the top. He said "why do you want to spend more money?" What contractor says that? The men came out a few days later. On time, polite, got right to work, and cleaned up like they were never there. Paul had given me a choice of colors. His price was the best one. My chimney now looks absolutely beautiful. I would give them 10 stars.

Great experience with Paul and the Pennacchi team. We contracted this firm to waterproof our basement and replace our basement windows. Nick was excellent at coordinating the effort, including preparation, window replacement, waterproofing, clean up, and follow up to inquire about and resolve a few questions. Happy to recommend Pennacchi and Sons.

Pennacchi sealed our basement 2 years ago. After a recent heavy rain we noticed seepage and asked Pennacchi to look at it. They sent Nick, who did an excellent job diagnosing the problem, finding the most likely seepage site, and then repairing it. Nick came by the next day, inspected the repair, and also improved sealing of 2 utility pipe entries. The rapid response, competency, diligence, and follow-up were excellent.

We are so impressed with Pennacchi & Sons. Multiple people recommended this company as the best in the region. For a company with a huge legacy, working throughout the county, there was no hesitation to see what our small job looked like and whether they could help. The crew was friendly, timely, and efficient. Ray walked us through the process, gave us a play-by-play for the best understanding of the work, and answered tons of questions. The end result was better than the original.

Pennacchi has an exceptional reputation and we now have firsthand experience of their stellar work. The precision craftsmanship and professionalism are impressive. We had our chimneys repointed, brickwork restored, and a basement wall resealed. It all blends seamlessly and looks gorgeous. Ask for Sam as your foreman if you can, he was amazing. The entire crew was fantastic. Kudos to Paul and the leadership for building a great team. Impeccable service and beautiful finished product.

Water was getting into my house because of the old brick exterior. It needed to be repointed and painted on the interior. Although this was a very small job, Paul and his son Paul Junior were incredibly professional, listened, and addressed my concerns. I left their crew to complete the work without being home and everything was safe and secure when I got back. They kept their work areas clean and took away their trash. Paul’s price was the most competitive. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

My basement was leaking really bad and had 2 different companies come out and try to fix the problem with no luck. Decided to try a third time and luckily I came across APS. They came out and did amazing work and solved all my issues. Put in a French drain, sump pump, and stuccoed the walls. They had to fix all the problems the other companies did, and it was a great experience working with them. Paul was extremely professional. Highly recommend if you need the job done right the first time.

We hired Pennacchi and Sons to waterproof our basement. We did not necessarily have issues, we just wanted to prevent any moisture problems in the future. We consulted with a few other people before speaking with Paul, the owner. Paul came up with an effective and cost-effective solution for us. We are very happy with the service and highly recommend Paul to everyone.

These guys did an amazing job for us. 20 years of trying to get my basement dry and these guys finally got it to work. We actually had another company do it 15 years ago but we always got water back. Paul and his brothers worked hard and they cleaned us up as well. Thanks for letting me tell this story guys.

I hired Pennacchi and Sons to do repair work on my chimney. In the 3 days they were here, they did an excellent job from start to finish. They also left my home in the same condition as it was before they came. I could not recommend this company more and would definitely hire them again if I needed future masonry work done.

Porch & Patio Repair
Why Mercer County Owners Call Earlier

Every Mercer County Winter Adds Scope.

Mercer County masonry takes thirty to forty freeze-thaw cycles a year. Every cycle opens hairline mortar cracks wider, lets more water in, and deepens the eventual repair. The project you scope today is smaller than the one you will scope next year. The earlier you schedule a site visit, the smaller the proposal.

Rebuild vs repoint, which chimney repair do I need in Mercer County?
A repoint works when the brick is sound but the mortar joints have failed, common on Trenton's older rowhouses. A rebuild is needed when brick has spalled, courses have shifted, or the crown has failed through to the flue, which shows up more often on colonial-era Princeton chimneys built with irregular flue dimensions. A site visit is the only reliable way to know which applies to your home.
Should I reline my chimney?
Yes, if the liner is missing, cracked, or too small for your current heating equipment, a common issue on older Hamilton and Ewing homes nearing 60 years old. Stainless steel reline work is standard for gas and oil appliances. Clay liners still work for wood-burning fireplaces but aren't accepted for modern high-efficiency systems under current code.
Why does my chimney leak even when it's not raining?
Three common causes: porous brick that absorbed rain and is now releasing it as interior humidity, failed flashing at the roofline joint, or a cracked crown letting water soak straight into the brick. This shows up often on Mercer County's older masonry stock. A real inspection before any repair starts matters more than guessing.
How much does chimney repair cost in Mercer County?
Cost depends heavily on scope. A simple repoint on a Hamilton split-level runs far less than a full rebuild on a multi-story Princeton estate, and height, brick type, and access all shift the number. We don't quote blind over the phone. A site visit lets us give you one fair pricing figure with a fixed total.
Will homeowners insurance cover chimney rebuilding?
Sometimes, depending on the cause. Storm or lightning damage is often covered, while gradual wear from age or freeze-thaw cycles usually isn't, which affects a lot of Mercer County's older housing stock. Check your specific policy language and ask your adjuster directly, since coverage varies by carrier and by what actually caused the damage.
